The Road to Beijing:

January 2005

Hi Everyone

So I am now living in Canberra. I was always going to have mixed emotions about the move. I was looking forward to having the best medical staff and assistance at hands reach and being able to walk to the pool, not having to clean up anything and pretty much just living the easy life. But on the other hand, I was sad to be leaving home. Having lived in the same house my entire life, it was hard to pack up my whole room and leave it all behind. Leaving familiar surroundings for a place where I have no idea where anything is, what is there and where to go was a little daunting. Leaving my family was the hardest thing to deal with, though luckily no tears came. I don't think it really has sunk in yet that I will be here in Canberra for possibly years. It has been 2 weeks and 2 days already and it really is going pretty fast!

My squad is going on a camp from January 23rd to February 5th to Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, so it's back to my home state after only 3 weeks of being away! I'm lucky enough to be able to stay an extra night after the camp. I'm so excited about being able to stay at home, even if it is for only one night!

Training is going well, pretty much the same as in Brisbane. I think it would have been harder to adjust if I was changing coaches as well as home towns, but having Shannon here, along with the 4 other girls I train with, has made it a really easy transition.

I'm living in AIS residence at the moment which isn't the most exciting place in the world, so I will be moving out as soon as I find a place to live. My best friend and training partner Tarnee White and I have been looking at places to live together. There are some really nice old suburbs close to the AIS like O'Connor and Lyneham with lots of character so I think that is where we will start. We're yet to find the perfect place, but we will keep looking and maybe next time I write, we'll be settled properly.

I'd best sign-off here, off to gym now and then a rest. Thanks for your time and keep working hard!!
