January 2008

Well December/January has been a big 2 months! Broken up of course by Christmas!! We actually were given 5 whole days off, completely out of the water and banned from any form of exercise, and boy did I love every second of it! The weeks leading up to Christmas has been some of our hardest yet, with 3 weeks of high altitude training, including a week in Thredbo hiking up hills and what not, so by the time it finally rolled around to Christmas morning, I was so glad to be with my family and friends just relaxing and enjoying spending time with those I love and miss the most! Although we didn’t have long at home, it was definitely a well deserved mini-break. We were straight back into training when I returned to Canberra. This included sessions both on New Years Eve Night and New Years Day morning! As you can imagine when you have an early session the morning after New Year Eve you have to have a very quiet celebration. I actually ended up asleep before midnight!
Only a few days into the new year and we were off to Melbourne for Victorian State Titles, which turned out to be quite a big ‘international’ meet, with 90 American swimmers competing, along with some from Great Britain and Japan. I came home with a win in the 100free (First time I’ve been a Victorian Champion!!) along with silver in the 100fly and 50free and bronze in the 50fly. It was good to do some hard racing whilst in very hard training, and still come off with some good results! Normally before a big meet we would taper which prepares our bodies to compete, however for the Victorian State Titles we had no taper, therefore it was great to see some good results whilst I was still in tough training.
All things are in full swing for Telstra Australian Championships which are in Sydney in March these are our trials to make the Olympic Team. March is approaching so fast – less than 2 months away! I am looking forward to competing!
Thanks again for all your support!
