Fuji Xerox celebrates long-standing relationship with RMIT with launch of new managed print centre

Campus’s graphic design students benefit from Fuji Xerox’s expertise
Melbourne – 16th June 2009 – Fuji Xerox Australia and RMIT today celebrated their long-standing partnership at the launch of a new managed print centre at the University’s Brunswick campus, home to the institution’s graphic design students.
Mr Stephen Somogyi, Vice-President Resources at RMIT, officially opened the facility today in front of an audience that included Steve Jordan, Victoria State Manager at Fuji Xerox Australia, and staff and students of RMIT.
The launch is the latest development in a 14-year relationship established in 1995, when Fuji Xerox first supplied RMIT with high-end printing devices and support. Since 2004, Fuji Xerox Global Services (FXGS) has taken responsibility for the delivery of on-site printing services to all RMIT’s Victorian campuses, home to 54,000 students and more than 3,000 staff, as part of a managed document services agreement.
By outsourcing its document services operations to FXGS, the University has experienced substantial savings and high customer satisfaction levels. It has benefited from the introduction of more efficient printing technologies, business process improvements and the provision of end-to-end document services from design through to printing and distribution of paper and electronic documents. By partnering with FXGS, the University is able to focus on its core mission of creating and disseminating knowledge to meet the needs of the community and equipping students with the right skills and passion to succeed in the world.
The new Brunswick print centre is one of four Fuji Xerox-managed sites at RMIT that caters for all the design, printing, finishing and on-site delivery needs of the University, from over-the-counter photocopying to the secure printing of exam papers. A service hub is located at the Bundoora campus, and a student copy centre and new customer service hub are located at the CBD campus. The new Brunswick site and CBD customer service hub effectively replace the services offered by a former site in the CBD.
According to Steve Jordan, Victoria State Manager, Fuji Xerox Australia, maintaining the high level of service the University has experienced over many years was the main objective in the transition to the new Brunswick printing site and the new CBD customer service hub.
“The transition to the new sites has been a seamless one. RMIT’s customers can rely on Fuji Xerox to provide fast and efficient turnaround and strong customer service,” said Jordan.
The Brunswick site, which is equipped with a Fuji Xerox Nuvera 288 production system and a Nuvera 144 production system, is much smaller than its CBD predecessor. “Using modern devices and workflow techniques, Fuji Xerox is able to provide the same capability and high standards of service with a smaller footprint, which reduces the University’s real estate overhead.”
The new managed print centre at Brunswick is on the same campus as the International Centre of Graphic Technology. Continuing a long tradition of active involvement with the University, Fuji Xerox is undertaking a number of initiatives that will assist students. One initiative provides RMIT with industry leading technology that offers training opportunities for students as part of their studies.
In addition, Fuji Xerox has worked in partnership with RMIT for several years on joint government grant research projects which aligns organisational values in the pursuit of innovation.
Stephen Somogyi praised Fuji Xerox for its commitment to RMIT and understanding of its needs.
“The characteristics of academic institutions differ from general businesses. As well as the diverse needs of our staff and students, we are as much a community as a place of work. Fuji Xerox has demonstrated its expertise and dedication to RMIT through its execution of the managed print service and willingness to help our students.”
