Fuji Xerox Australia ceases procurement from Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL)

Fuji Xerox Australia today announced an immediate suspension of business with Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL).

Sydney, Australia – “Over the past eighteen months we have been concerned with the lack of progress with regard to APRIL’s logging practices in Indonesia. Fuji Xerox Australia has been encouraging APRIL to adopt Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and we have been working with ENGO’s on the ground to monitor APRIL’s progress,” said Fuji Xerox Australia’s Managing Director, Nick Kugenthiran.

“However, over the last several months we have been very concerned with the lack of progress with APRIL. Our concerns were grave enough for us to take steps in June 2011 to review our relationship with APRIL. Due to these concerns and further issues brought to our attention we have made the decision to cease all procurement with APRIL.”

As part of our ongoing transparency and commitment to sustainable practices, Fuji Xerox is developing a robust transition plan to ensure all customers maintain required stock levels, and will update relevant ENGOs on our transition plan over the coming weeks. Some customers will run through current stocks of paper products sourced from APRIL. These products will not be re-supplied with stock sourced from APRIL at the end of the transition period.

This policy was developed in consultation with ENGOs, our suppliers and industry specialists. It sets minimum environmental standards and a step-wise program for improvement in the areas of fibre sourcing, energy and water use, emissions to air, land and water and it is based on global guidelines and industry standards. We confirm and renew our suppliers’ compliance with this policy annually.
