Setting up the office of the future, today

Setting up the office of the future, today

Take a look around your office, and chances are some of the equipment you see on your desk or being used by your colleagues would have been confined to the realms of science fiction just a few short years ago. The world of consumer and business technology moves incredibly quickly, whether with incremental improvements to existing devices or brand new, revolutionary items that can impact the entire world. Keeping your organisation up-to-date may no longer be enough – the most successful businesses need to be able to predict how the office environment will change in the coming years and remain agile enough to adapt. Activity-Based Working – Lessons for the future

In a luncheon held by Fuji Xerox Australia in Sydney recently, I was privileged to facilitate a discussion between a panel of industry experts who spoke about their experiences in the deployment of activity-based working within their own organisations. Discussions ranged from where to start (by talking to staff about their needs and peers about what they have learned in their own deployments) to how to measure and continually improve the experience. Delivering better services through technology

Delivering better services through technology

These are only a few of the questions which were heavily discussed and debated at the recent FuturGov Summit in Canberra, attended by leading government agencies from Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom. The discussion tables, panel sessions and notable keynote presentations focused on such key topics as mobility, cloud, information management, security, collaborative tools to drive productivity, emerging technologies, data management, the Government ICT reform and what’s bugging CIO’s. What stood out from the conversations I heard and discussions with …

Bring Your Own Technology – Threat or Opportunity?

Bring Your Own Technology – Threat or Opportunity?

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving” – Albert Einstein In this great quote from the 1930s, we could quite easily substitute the word ‘Life’ with ‘Technology’. While technology remains a competitive differentiator, it can be assumed that most companies have good technology and it is only the laggards that may now work with/employ technology that is sub-par. The BYO concept has been around in various forms for as long as we have had personal computers and mobile phones. I have been using my personal devices for various work tasks for the last 10 years, albeit until recently, supplemented by corporate technology. High speed home internet, …
